Ending weekly break-ins at a Colorado commercial site
After $600,000 of equipment losses in two months, a 10-foot electric fence turned a vulnerable chain-link boundary into an active security barrier. Break-ins stopped immediately.
The Challenge
An unmanned commercial site in an area with significant theft was storing expensive equipment outside overnight behind an 8-foot chain-link fence and CCTV. Repeated break-ins forced the replacement of more than $600,000 of equipment in a two-month period. CCTV could record intrusions, but by the time a response was organised the damage was done.
The Solution
Working with US partner AC-DC, an electric fence was installed around approximately 1,400 feet of the existing perimeter in a 10-foot configuration with an overhang, creating an active barrier rather than a passive boundary. The fence was integrated with access control, CCTV verification, an audible siren and alarm monitoring, and an APS engineer travelled from Scotland to commission the complete system.
The Result
The results were immediate: from weekly break-ins to zero break-ins in the first month after installation. The customer has since extended the solution to additional sites.
