Non-lethal electric fencing (NLEF) is one of the most effective active deterrents available for high-security perimeters. Unlike a passive barrier, an electric fence makes intrusion an unpleasant and memorable experience while remaining entirely safe by design.
The principle is straightforward. An energizer stores electrical energy and releases it as a short, high-voltage pulse roughly once per second. Because the pulse is extremely brief and energy-limited in accordance with IEC 60335-2-76, it delivers a strong shock sensation without posing a danger to life.
Crucially, an Electro-Fence™ system does more than deter. The same wires that carry the pulse are continuously monitored, so any attempt to cut, climb or short the fence is detected within milliseconds and reported to the control room - combining deterrence and detection in a single layer.
This dual role is why pulsed electric fencing is specified for critical national infrastructure, the secure estate and high-value industrial sites around the world.
