Solar-powered Flexiguard detection for a UK solar farm

A fully wireless, solar-powered Flexiguard™ intrusion detection system deployed across a UK solar farm in partnership with Technicom UK - security without compromising future land use.

The Challenge

A UK solar farm needed reliable intrusion detection across a wide rural boundary with minimal ground disturbance, no mains power at the perimeter, and a design that keeps the land fully recoverable for other uses in around 25 years. A rigid security fence was ruled out; the site used lightweight deer fencing as its boundary, so detection - not physical resistance - had to carry the security load.

The Solution

APS deployed Flexiguard™ fence-mounted vibration detection along the deer-fence perimeter, engineered for the site: solar-powered operation for full off-grid self-sufficiency, wireless alarm transmission back to the central CCTV control platform, zoned detection so operators see exactly which section of the boundary is under attack, and tuning to reject wind and wildlife movement in an open agricultural environment. The project was delivered in partnership with Technicom UK, integrating detection with the existing CCTV system for automatic visual verification of every alarm.

The Result

The site gained continuous perimeter detection with immediate CCTV verification of intrusion attempts, faster operator response, and fewer unnecessary callouts - all with minimal ground disturbance, low energy consumption and full land recoverability. Published as an APS case study, July 2026.
