Can APS energisers retrofit a third-party NLEF system?
Yes. APS energisers are compatible for retrofit with third-party non-lethal electric fence systems. The retrofit replaces the energisers, monitoring and control software while reusing the existing wire array, field enclosures and communications network, which is what saves facilities thousands against full replacement.
How long does a retrofit take?
In one published state Department of Corrections project, the complete turnkey retrofit, including operator training, was finished in five working days. The client went on to install identical APS systems at two further prisons.
Does the retrofitted perimeter meet ASTM F3297?
ASTM F3297-19 is the US Standard Practice for corrections applications of non-lethal electric security fences. It calls for IEC-limited pulse output, a minimum eight hour battery backup and alarms on circuit-open, wire-to-wire and wire-to-ground conditions. Electro-Fence energisers are limited to IEC 60335-2-76, detect cut, climb, short and tamper conditions, and an optional 7 Ah battery provides eight hours of backup.
Is Electro-Fence non-lethal?
Yes. Electro-Fence delivers 9.9 kV no-load pulses of 2 to 5 joules, one every 1.2 seconds, within the limits of IEC 60335-2-76. The shock is painful and memorable but engineered not to injure, and the gap between pulses means anyone touching the fence can always let go.
