Why Electro-Fence™
One fence line. Deterrence and detection combined.
Deter
A safe, non-lethal high-voltage pulse delivers a powerful physical and psychological deterrent.
Detect
Continuous monitoring flags any cut, climb or short within milliseconds.
Delay
A robust high-tensile barrier buys critical time for response.
FAQ
Electric security fencing questions, answered.
Is Electro-Fence safe and legal?
Yes. Electro-Fence is a non-lethal electric fence whose energisers keep every pulse within the limits of BS EN IEC 60335-2-76: 9.9 kV no-load output, 2 to 5 joules of energy and one pulse every 1.2 seconds. Installations follow BS 1722-17:2017, the British Standard for electric security fences. Non-lethal electric fencing is legal for commercial and government use across the UK, the US and most of the world when installed to standard.
How does Electro-Fence detect an intruder?
The energiser monitors the electrical health of every zone on each pulse. A cut wire, a climbing intruder shorting strands together or a deliberate ground-out each produce a distinct signature and raise an immediate, zone-specific alarm. Each energiser drives one or two zones of up to 300 metres at a 3 metre fence height, and a low-voltage alarm mode keeps detection running with the high voltage switched off.
Can Electro-Fence be retrofitted to an existing fence or system?
Yes. Electro-Fence can be added to an existing fence line as well as built as a freestanding barrier, and APS energisers are compatible for retrofit with third-party non-lethal electric fence systems, so ageing installations can be modernised while reusing the wire array, enclosures and communications already on site.
What power supply does Electro-Fence need?
Energisers run from 110 to 240 V AC or from a 12 V DC battery and solar supply, drawing 8 watts on average and 20 watts at peak. An optional 7 Ah battery gives eight hours of backup, and the electronics sit in an IP65 GRP enclosure rated from -20°C to +75°C.
